The Little Way

Updated: Oct 9, 2021

When I compare myself to the saints I get overwhelmed. The difference that exist between them and myself is so great that I would sometimes lose hope and would stop trying.

While doing the 33-day Consecration to His Merciful Love, I came across the teaching of St Therese and her rediscovery of the little way:

We are living now in an age of inventions, and we no longer have to take the trouble of climbing stairs, for, in the homes of the rich, an elevator has replaced these very successfully ... and I read these words coming from the mouth of Eternal Wisdom: “Whoever is a LITTLE ONE, let him come to me.” ... The elevator which must raise me to heaven is Your arms, O Jesus! And for this I had no need to grow up, but rather I had to remain little and become this more and more.

This gave me so much hope as I realise that I don't have to do great things to please the Lord but rather do small things with great love. In my littleness, the Lord will raise me up in His arms.

Come, Holy Spirit, fire of mercy.

Help me to recognize my own lowliness

and to rejoice in God’s mercy.
